- Individual Note Had 7 children 5 boys all stayed in NY or NJ except one boy who went to Bucks Co. Pa. Other spellings of the name are Kroesen, Crousen Garret came first to Brooklyn also lived in New Amsterdam, Breuckelen(then Staten island). Collections of New York Genealogical Society, Volume I, page 139, book1897. He left Winschoten, the Netherlands a village in the Province of Groningen prior to May 1, 1661 and came to America arriving in Breuckelen (Brooklyn) New York. Received a land patent on Staten Island in 1677. Garret occup. was that of a Cooper Owned land in Brn between that of jacob Brouwer and that of Volkert Hendrickse Bries or Breets, and on ass. rools of Brn of 1675 and 76. In 1677 he obtained a patent for 160 acres from Gov Andross on S.I. to which he removed. In 1677 he had 600 acres on Staten Island.
Ancestry and family search and geneanet and roots web all show father as Dirksen Croesen Garret's patronymic of Dircksen implies that his father was named Dirk or Dirck (but not Dircksen!).
